Labour Day Weekend

I will be away this weekend, but I will be back on Monday. :) Things are great because Toby was able to get the special visa which enables him to work full time in Japan, which is good. I was afraid working part time wouldn't make us much $$.

Update v. 1.1

Yay! I've just been informed that we can go in early November if Toby goes on the Flex Schedule (23 hrs per week). YAY! I am very glad we won't have to wait til November.

Japan Update

So here I am, I'm told we are leaving end of October/early November. That means I can't work at the ice rink for the fall season. Guess what, we got our contract stuff and it says January!!! :( That is a long time to wait while living on tutoring only. I called and they said they would try to get us over for November. Crossing our fingers...

ばんざい!

Kate's been bugging me to make a post here (dunno why, we know another couple with a blog* and the female half does most of the posting there, too), so I'll post this news even though she's the one who found out about it first:

We're off to Japan.

We got a couple of jobs teaching English in Japan through Nova, starting in late October/early November. Yay us!

*Behold, the blog ouroboros!

Bowling for Columbine

Bowling For Columbine
I just saw this yesterday. I have to rewatch the last few minutes, but it was really really good. Very funny and insightful. I especially liked the interviews with the creator of southpark (name?) and Marilyn Manson. About the latter: I never gave him much thought (or credit) before (not into his music AT ALL), but he had some good things to say. Also, the clips from Southpark were exceedingly funny. ;)

Japan Interview etc.

Toby's computer is infected with MSBlast, so he can't get on the internet to post. Anyways, let's recount the last week, because it's fun, and I'm in a really, really bad mood. :(. Let's see. On tuesday we went for our interview to teach english in Japan. That was interesting...we were the second to get there, the first guy had to ask the interviewer how to spell a word, so I don't think that was too good for him. One guy wore his jacket the whole time and the only other guy to wear a suit was the guy who couldn't spell. I couldn't believe it. Some people didn't even have all their documentation. Anyways, I think it went pretty well and I'm very hopeful. I can't wait to get out of this dump. :)

In other news, I am going to be stuck with my horrible, horrible sister next week (all week) so am busy making plans for every single day. I am dreading next week. It will be horrible. Note to self: buy earplugs to try to drown out the constant boom-boom music that drives me up the frigging wall.

bad bad mood :(

edited to add: things are not all bad. On a high note, Toby and I did see Run Lola Run, which was quite enjoyable, as well as Sanjuro, another Kurosawa, which was really funny. Am waiting to see Swimming Pool, which has had good reviews.

Fun with Stylesheets

I am finally getting the hang of CSS - stylesheets. Very tricky, but I think it's worth it not to have to do silly tables all the time. A lot of the help pages on the net are too difficult, but I've found a good one with examples, which is what I need to learn something. This place had good examples

Fun Times at Pacific Cinematheque

Pacific Cinematheque
This place is great - the films are cheap and you can see some truly great films here, unlike the regular crappy theaters that have crap like Bad Boys II (ick) and charge $15 for it. An added bonus is cheap popcorn with real butter!

Ikiru

Yesterday night we saw Ikiru, a Kurosawa film. I was going to say that I thought it was the saddest film I've ever seen, but on second thought I think it is too simplistic to simply narrow it down to being sad. There are few films that can so truly portray emotion with the complexity and sensitivity of this one.

That is the movie poster. Oh, I just wanted to add that the man who plays Watanabe, Takashi Shimura, is a phenominal actor. Kurosawa used him in quite a few films, and with good reason! He is amazing.

brought to you by Quizilla

Ok, so apparently I belong in Fight Club...riiiight. I'll remember to try to come up with those mean words and toughness for next time. I like the part about creating my own rules though.

The Inaugural Post

Ha ha! I got the first post! Neener! ;) We'll see what comes about from this. Should be interesting.
